Configuring Alternate SMTP Port and Authentication in Entourage

A common issue currently with Internet Service Providers is that they block port 25.  This is the port that an email program uses to send email messages.  They do this to try to reduce the spam that is generated directly from their customers.

To configure an alternate SMTP Port, please complete the following:

In Microsoft Entourage, click on "Tools" and "Accounts"

Highlight your email account and click "Edit"

Click on the button that says "Click here for advanced sending options".

Check "Override default SMTP port" and enter "8889" (without quotes) in the box.

To enable SMTP authentication, check "My SMTP server requires authentication" and "Use same settings as incoming mail server".

Click OK as needed to close the dialog boxes.
