Can I use GZIP compression on my site?

Although GZIP compression is more commonly used in Linux/Apache environments (which is done by adding a rule in an htaccess file), you are able utilize GZIP compression in our Windows environment by adding a line of code to the individual PHP files you wish to compress.

If your hosting plan supports PHP 5, add the following line of code to the very beginning of your PHP page (If you're using WordPress, for example, place this on line #1 of your WordPress index or default page).
<? if (substr_count($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING'], 'gzip')) ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); else ob_start(); ?>
To test if your page is compressed, visit the following GZIP test site and enter the URL for your web page:  http://www.gidnetwork.com/tools/gzip-test.php.
