Certificate Management for SSL
Certificates for domains on shared plans
are made easy by the automated Certificate Management tool. With this
Control Center tool, you can create and process Certificate Signing
Requests and review and install certificate files, enabling SSL for
your website. It allows you to manage the SSL process in the Control
Center for one or all of your domain names.
We recommend using a CTssl
certificate. However, the Certificate Management tool in the Control
Center can be utilized regardless of which certificate provider that
you choose.
If you have not already, login to the Control Center at
https://www.webcontrolcenter.com/customer.aspx
to
use the SSL Certificate Management tool. From the menu item Ecommerce,
click on SSL MANAGEMENT. The following bullet points represent links or
processes on this page.
Domains without a SSL certificate
- Generate CSR (The Certificate Request)
Before
a SSL certificate can be produced correctly by the certificate
provider, they need to know specific information about the web server
that the website is on. This information is generated and put into a
Certificate Signing Request (CSR).
When completing this form,
you will need to provide the following information. Please do not use
abbreviations or symbols. This option will remove any previous request.
Country: Select the country from the drop down box and click NEXT.
Common name:
Enter the domain name that you will be securing here. Most certificates
are meant to be used for one domain name and one prefix only. For
example, in www.EXAMPLE.com where "EXAMPLE.com" is your domain name,
the "www" is the prefix. You can create a certificate for an extra
domain by putting that domain name into the common name field, however
you can only have one SSL certificate per hosting plan.
Organization Name:
Enter the name of the organization that owns the domain name as
specified at the registrar. Please do not use abbreviations or commas.
Organization Unit: Enter the name of the department within your company that will have the most interaction with the SSL pages.
City: Enter the city where the business is located.
State/ Province: Enter the entire state's name. Please do not use abbreviations.
Email Address: An email address is not used in the certificate itself, but we may need it to email you more information.
CT SSL:
If you would like to purchase a new SSL certificate, select either the
one year or the three year option. If you would not like to use CTssl,
select the option to "Use other certificate authority."
If a Wild Card Certificate or a Secure Commerce Certificate
with more than $100,000 of Identification Guarantee is needed, select
"Use other certificate authority" and use the CSR content in the Online Order Form. When SecureTrust sends the certificate back to you by email, use the Certificate Manager to install the certificate.
Click
on the NEXT button and the CSR will be generated in real time. Lastly,
click on the FINISH button. If you selected a CTssl, no other steps are
needed for completion! The certificate will get installed within two to
48 hours. You can check the pending column for up to the minute status.
It's in the second table down, labeled "Domains awaiting SSL
certificate installation."
** Please
note that there will be an installation fee of $10.00 for a CTssl and
$20.00 for a non-CTssl. This charge is for certificate installation
only. It does not include what the certificate provider will charge for
the certificate.
- Import PFX File (key)
A certificate can be imported from another hosting plan or website by using a PFX file or key.
**
Please note that there will be an installation fee of $10.00 for a
CTssl and $20.00 for a non-CTssl. This charge is for certificate
installation only. It does not include what the certificate provider
will charge for the certificate.
Every PFX file is made
with a password. Enter in the password and browse to the PFX file on
your computer. Click on the SUBMIT button to finish the process.
Domains awaiting SSL certificate installation
- Pending
Status
for this column can be pending or pending - CT SSL. When a pending - CT
SSL certificate is ready, the certificate will get automatically
installed. After a certificate has been installed, it will show up in a
separate table near the bottom called, "Domains currently using a SSL
certificate." If there was an issue creating the certificate, click on
the link, "Needed Info" or "Bad CSR Data" and see Knowledge Base article 924.
- View CSR
Clicking
this link will show you the content of the Certificate Signing Request.
If you did not choose CTssl, email or submit the certificate signing
request content to the certificate provider of your choice.
- Install Certificate
If
you have chosen an alternate certificate provider, when you receive the
web site certificate file and the root certificate files back from the
certificate provider, use the Certificate manager to install the web
site certificate.
** Please note that
there will be an installation fee of $10.00 for a CTssl and $20.00 for
a non-CTssl. This charge is for certificate installation only. It does
not include what the certificate provider will charge for the
certificate.
Open up the certificate file (you can use a
program like text pad) so that you can see the content. Copy and paste
the into the open space. Click on the SUBMIT button. This process will
install the certificate in real time.
Domains currently using a SSL certificate
- Renew Certificate (Start Renewal Process)
This process follows the same steps as a new certificate (see Generate CSR), keeping the current certificate intact.
- Export to PFX File (key)
There
is no charge to export a PFX file. Click the link and create a password
for the file. Write down this password for later use as the PFX file
can't be used without it.
Test out your certificate by
browsing to https://Example.com where "Example.com" is your domain name
or the common name that was used for generating the CSR.
If
there are any issues or discrepancies, please email all certificates to
support@crystaltech.com with a description of the issue.

Most plans already have access to a shared SSL. A shared SSL
fundamentally works the same as your own, but has a generic domain
name. See Knowledge Base article 411 for more details.Back to Results
